These are just three of dozens of tips I’ve found to help save on air fair, hotels, rental cars and cruises. They’re all easy to try no matter the reason for travel!
#1 – Fly over a weekend
Plan your trip so that you fly out one week and return the next – thereby flying over a weekend. Since business people most often fly Monday through Friday, airlines offer lower prices for non-standard times.
For example, many online booking websites offer the +3/-3 search options to find the cheapest times to fly. If you have flexible flight options, check this feature out and you may be surprised at how much money you can save just by flying out on a Tuesday rather than Wednesday, for example.
#2 – Check multiple websites
We all have our favorite tried-and-true websites to book airline tickets from, but take an extra minute to shop around. You might find more options on a different website than the one you originally tried.
If Orbitz, Priceline, and Travelocity give the same exact flight as an option, they will most likely have roughly the same price tag on it. However, you might be offered different flight times and connection options on each of the websites. If you’re not satisfied with your initial options, shop around a bit more.
#3 – Use International Airlines
If you are traveling to London, for example, then want to skip over to, say, Stockholm, instead of buying a multiple-stop ticket all at once from a website in your home country, buy a round trip ticket to London and purchase the second round trip ticket using a smaller European airline.
You can even research these smaller airlines from home, or make your purchase once you get to London (continuing with this example). Each region has regional airlines, and thus regional prices. If you are making multiple stops, consider buying two independent round trip tickets, and just coordinate arrival and departure times.
Just a little pre-planning and coordination on your part can save you loads of money, especially if you are traveling with others. And these are easy tricks, and there are so many more!
