Geology Museum is located at Jalan
Diponegoro, Bandung, located not far from the famous "Gedung Sate". This
museum stores and manages abundant geological materials such as
fossils, rocks and minerals. The collection of objects collected during
the fieldwork in Indonesia since 1850.
This Museum was built by the Dutch East Indies administration to
document the many rocks, minerals and fossils collected from numerous
regions in the Dutch East Indies region. The launching was done on May
16, 1929 under the name Geologisch Laboratorium, otherwise known as Geologisch Museum.
The museum's main exhibition hall is divided into three section. The
first is called the History of Live, which depicts the history behind
the formation of earth up to the dinosaur age. The second section is
called the Geology of Indonesia, which depicts the formation of the
Indonesian landmass. The third is Geology of Human Life, which depicts
the uses of rocks, minerals, exploration and explorations attempts that
had been done in the course of human history.
In addition to 3 demonstration space, in this museum there are also two rooms that interest you look around that room and the Auditorium Room Documentation. Documentation in the room you can see the collection of geological documentation includes rocks, minerals and fossils, including other documents that are valuable to the history and development of geological science in the future. While at auditorium you can watch 3D movies themed geology. However, there are conditions which the visitors at least 50 people.
Discover also here diverse collection of fossils of Homo erectus skull found in Indonesia and in several other places in the world. There are also artifacts that used to characterize the development of ancient cultures from time to time.
Geology Museum is open from Monday-Thursday at 09:00 to 15:00 pm, while Saturday and Sunday at 09:00 to 13:00 hrs. Special Friday and national holidays closed for the sake of taking care of the collection objects.
Transportation Access
Geological Museum is located at Jalan Diponegoro No. 57 Bandung. To reach this place is not difficult where you can use a taxi from the airport or train station. When using public transportation then there are 2 types of trajectory through the museum that is subject Riung Dago-Bandung (green and white) and Ciwastra-Cicaheum (white chocolate). There is also a bus Damri through the museum but you need to ask the path through which the Dipati Ukur.
