This Museum was formerly the city hall of the VOC colonial government of Batavia in 1626. Over time, its function and its use has continued to change. It has been a courthose, a civil records office and even a military base. In 1985, the building was given to the Jakarta City Administration, which had since turned it into a museum on March 30, 1974.
 
 
This museum is closely related to the Oud Batavia museum, which was created by the Dutch in 1919 to commemorate the 300th birthday of Batavia city. Its collection mostly espouses remnants of the Dutch governance during the 16th Century. This include old Dutch furnitures, ceramics, maps, books and weapons. When Indonesia gained its independence The Oud Batavia Museum was turned into the Djakarta Lama museum and its whole collection was moved to the Jakarta History Museum.

Jakarta History Museum is currently storing approximately 25,000 collection of objects ranging from prehistoric times to the collection of this century. Here you can find the inscription Ciaruteun which are relics of the kingdom Tarumanegara. There is also the Jagur Meriam, where the statue of the god Hermes in advance for the European traders as the god of good luck and protection, Kampung Baru Mosque pulpit, dungeon which Luckily Suropati (1670) and Prince Diponegoro (1830) had been detained. There is also a fountain in the middle of the park that was once a water source City Hall.

Here you can also see antique furniture from the 17th century to 19 which is a mix of European style, China, and Indonesia. There is also a collection of ceramics, pottery, and stone inscriptions. Tucked well as diverse collection of Betawi culture here.

Jakarta History Museum has a library facility that holds 1200 collection of titles. The books are mostly relics of the colonial era. Many of them speak Dutch, Malay, English and Arabic. One of the oldest is the Bible from the year 1702.

Museum Fatahillah also be equipped with the nuances of tempo doeloe cafe, souvenir shop, supermarket, meeting and exhibition space, as well as the garden. Time Open Museum Fatahillah Jakarta is Tuesday through Sunday at 09:00 am to 15:00 pm. Mondays and holidays closed.

Transportation Access

Location Fatahillah Museum is in the heart of the Old Town area, the exact location is located at Jalan Taman Fatahillah Jakarta No.2, West Jakarta. And can be accessed by road from various corners of the city. You can use Transjakarta bus from block-M (hall 1), then get off at the terminal end of the city. From the terminal proceed by foot to the Old City area. Another option you can use public transport bus patas 79 (Kampung Rambutan-Kota). Microbus can also use M-12 (Pasar Senen-Kota), microbus M-08 (Tanah Abang-Kota), or Kopaja 86 (Grogol-Kota).
