Going through South America is a popular excursion for the most daring and able of travelers. Most of these trips run north to south, or vice versa, in order to take advantage of seeing all the countries on the continent. However, moving horizontally has its benefits too. If this is something you are interested in, consider moving between Chile and Argentina between Santiago and the Atlantic coast where Buenos Aires is situated.

Santiago, Chile: The capital of Chile is a bustling city with all the modern options of fun and entertainment to suit every kind of traveler. Because Chile is such a narrow country, daytrips from Santiago can be made to the Andes mountains or beach (such as Vina del Mar), or even both. Developed urban parks and historical museums round out the charm of Santiago, making the city a must-see on your Chile vacation packages or trips at any time of the year.

Mendoza, Argentina: Here is the best place to base yourself out of as you explore Aconcagua, the tallest mountain in the Americas and of any place outside of the Asian Himalayas. As well, Mendoza and the vineyards all around are famous for creating the famous quality red wine that Argentina is known around the world for. Situated in a desert environment, it gets extremely hot in the summer which takes place around December to April because it is below the equator.

Córdoba, Argentina: Córdoba is the intellectual and agricultural center of Argentina, particularly of the northern region. Countless parks, museums, and cultural events can be experienced every day largely because of the young student population in the city. About 1.3 million people live here, so visit some of the nearby villages of the countryside if you need a breath of fresh air on your Argentina holidays.

Rosario, Argentina: This is the 3rd most populated city in Argentina but is still relatively new to the tourism scene. As such, it is a good place to take advantage of all the comforts and facilities provided by a city, but also for enjoying the quaint rural countryside. Go on excursions that will allow you to bike, skydive, ride horses, sail, dance, play music, and more. Salsa is big here, so pick up new skills at one of the nightclubs!

Buenos Aires, Argentina: The capital of the country is popularly regarded as the “Paris of South America” because of its charming architectural features and spacious main areas. Enjoy a great meal of red meat like Argentina is so famous for, drink some mate with new friends in the traditional style, and learn some tango styles at an unmarked milonga venue found throughout the city. Stroll along the waterfront, or just meander through the colorful streets admiring one of the most respected cities on the continent. Buenos Aires is also a good starting point for your cross continent travels because of its well connected international airport.
