Bangkok’s nightlife has a special reputation, partially thanks to movies like The Hangover II, which tells of the stormy bachelor party. While residents say that this part of life in Bangkok certainly exist, more upscale nightlife for business people is also available – and lots of it.
“Thailand is a country where people do not really wait for the weekend to have a drink,” said Joel Clement, Regional Creative Director of Saatchi & Saatchi, which was founded in Bangkok 10 years ago. “New places appear in so many different forms, and they are many.”
Drinks are also very diverse. Scotch and soda is a favorite Thai drink, says Clement, and it is quite common when a Thai-style bars, called “kitchen table discos” for patrons, bring a bottle of whiskey and the Community (bars are profiting from the sale of mixers and ice, as well as fixed fee if you drink your own liquor (corkage fee).
Meanwhile, the Western-style institutions, which cater to foreign tourists and offer a mixed menu, drinks, some with unique flavors such as lychee and lemongrass.
In the latter category, Clement recommends Fat Gut’z, “small and friendly” bar with live jazz music and he creation of sophisticated cocktails specialist Joseph Boroski.
Club Perdomo Bangkok is more suitable for really high-end business travelers.
This is a small private club, where you can enjoy the finest cigars, great spirits and wine and chat with some very interesting people.
“A lot of business travelers who visit Bangkok regularly have membership in a club that would visit him when they are in town,” says Clement. Expect leather club chairs and Scotch whiskey.
