Kuala Lumpur, the capital and the largest metropolis of Malaysia has a lot to offer the visiting tourists. There are a lot of places of interest here and most hotels in Kuala Lumpur also offer deals which enable tourists to choose the sites they want to visit, and plan out an ideal holiday.
1. Petronas Twin Towers is one of the iconic structures of Kuala Lumpur city centre is the imposing Petronas Twin Towers, also referred to as the Twin Jewels. It is an 88-storey steel tower housing many offices. Amidst the two structures is where the Dewan Filharmonik Petronas concert hall is situated. Also there is a mall, Suria KLCC located here. This is Southeast Asia’s foremost place for classical music. The structure is a mix of Arab and Islamic designs and there is a Sky bridge at the 41st floor connecting the two towers. A view of the Malaysian capital from here is enthralling.
2. KL Tower is a structure perched atop the Bukit Nanas forest reserve is the 421 metre tall KL Tower which is also known as the Menara KL. This is the fifth tallest building in the world. Tourists can view the city from the viewing deck which is equipped with telescopes. Seri Angkasa, a revolving restaurant is located at the top.
3. Batu Caves is located about 11 km north of Kuala Lumpur is one of KL’s most visited places. This is a limestone hill formed some million years ago, consisting of three main caves and some smaller caves. The Cathedral cave, the largest, houses a century old temple with many Hindu shrines and is revered by the Hindus. Also there is an Art Gallery cave and a Museum cave here.
4. Thean Hou Temple is one of the oldest and biggest shrines in Southeast Asia and is known for its utter splendour. This six-tiered Chinese temple is located atop Robson Heights in Kuala Lumpur. Dedicated to Tian Hou – the goddess who protects fishermen and Guan Yin – the Goddess of Mercy, the temple is definitely worth a visit. The temple is a contemporary structure designed on the lines of Buddhist, Taoist and Confucius influences.
5. China Town is famous for getting things at a bargain and it is very popular with tourists. This place is so lively that it never seems to rest. The place is resplendent in Oriental customs, legacy and history. There are many cheap Kuala Lumpur hotels in this area.
6. Pasar Seni (Central Market) is a popular and most visited spot is the Central Market also known as Pasar Seni. It is located near the Jalan Hang Kasturi close to Petaling Street. This is more like a flea market with an array of local products like mementos, handicrafts, clothes, carvings, and ethnic goods. Many festivals are hosted in the Central Market area – another market which is considered a heritage site.
7. Jalan Ampang is like walking down memory lane, with early 1900s old mansions and ancestral homes lining the street. Shopping malls like Great Eastern Mall, Ampang Point and City Square, and many embassies are located here.
8. National Mosque was built in 1965 is situated near the Kuala Lumpur Lake Gardens. Only Muslims are allowed into the main prayer hall and tourists have to dress suitably and leave footwear at the entrance.
